Mission of Soil Biology Research Department is identification, monitoring, management and use of biological potential of soils to increase the quality and quantity of crops yield, increasing the resistance of plants to biotic and abiotic stresses, reducing the use of chemical fertilizers, increasing fertilizer and water use efficiency with the simultaneous application of biological and organic fertilizers, soil bioremediation, help to maintain soil health and assisting in the development of knowledge, industry and technology of biofertilizer production in the country.

Tasks of the department Investigation to increase the potential of biological nitrogen fixation; determining the nitrogen fixation capacity of indigenous strains of Rhizobia isolated from various legumes; study of different plant growth promoting rhizobacteria, investigation on soil micro-flour and micro-fauna; study of earthworms for production of vermicompost, evaluation of biological Nitrification, Denitrification and Ammonification processes. Acquiring know-how of suitable inoculants for different crop plants using nitrogen fixers, plant growth promoting rhizobacteria, phosphorous and potassium solubilizing and, sulphur-oxidizing bacteria and Ecto and endo mycorrizal fungi. Presentation and Preservation of beneficial soil microorganisms in universal culture collection of soil and water research institute CCSM.
