Soil and Water Research Institute (SWRI) Appointed as the National Promoter of the Global Soil Doctors Programme (GSDP) in Iran
The Soil and Water Research Institute (SWRI) has been officially designated as the national promoter of the Global Soil Doctors Programme (GSDP) in Iran, according to the institute’s Public Relations Department. Additionally, Dr. Sina Mallah has been appointed as the national technical manager for the project by GSP-FAO.
Currently, the initiative is being implemented across 82 hectares within three rural cooperatives in Golestan Province. As outlined in the project’s roadmap, the next phase is set to begin next year, extending to eight additional provinces.
The primary objective of this program is to train "soil doctors" from among lead farmers to enhance sustainable soil management and boost agricultural productivity through advanced soil conservation technologies and methods. As the leading institution overseeing this project in Iran, SWRI aims to collaborate with farmers, researchers, NGOs, the private sector, government bodies, and international organizations to improve soil health and ensure long-term agricultural sustainability.
